Cedar Market celebrating 20 years and growing! January 29th

Poster 2

Come and help celebrate The Cedar Farmers Market on Friday January 29th at the Cedar Hall

check links below for more information.

20 Years ago a couple of wise local women had the idea to start a farmers market at the Cedar Hall.

Suzanne Heizer and Jean Compton were before their time as now there are markets all up and down the Island : a wonderful thing.

It all started with tables set up out side the hall on Sundays. Local farmers sold their produce, meat and eggs. Local musicians added to the charm of this homegrown event-one of them being the Juno award winning blues man Ken Hamm who’s partner at the time was the late great Lynn Wallace. A top notch goat farmer and extraordinary gardener. They lived just down the road.

Over the years the market grew and grew and moved to it’s perfect current location at the entrance of the Crow & Gate’s property in Yellow Point. Ken moved to Saskatchewan in 2007 . We all love Ken and his great music and no one ever took him for granted or tired of his music, he has been so missed-but- he’ll be back on the Island to start the Cedar Farmer’s Market 20th year out right ! Joined by friends & local musician’s (please check the market webpage and facebook for more Information (links above).

Title song for our new CD “Konsorados waiting for a train”

Never too old to wave at the Engineer
Line pennies up on the steel rail.
We lived between the tracks and the river.

Skippin’ church, skippin’ stones
Pretending we were hobos
Skippin’ south to meet the train

We were waiting for a train
We were waiting for a train

Walking back and forth, early morning
Heels echo on the wooden Platform
Sun’s backin’ up your silhouette

Word’s come down for Edmonton
A train’s derailed in Albreda
They’re waiting for a crew
to clean up the mess

We are waiting for a train
We are waiting for a train

Whistle blows, all aboard
feel the engine start to roll ……..

You’ve got to trust the understanding
between wheel and rail.
Between steam and locomotion

It’s every boy’s dream to ride the train
